Food Habits...

I wake knowing I need to go for a power walk or do a few salutes to the sun and stretches, but before commencing my regime of activity it’s a drink a glass or two of water.  Without a doubt whilst in the midst of my morning activity, I will start pondering my morning meal. Will it be a green juice, porridge, organic weet-bix with unhomogenised full cream milk, sourdough bread with peanut butter, scrambled eggs and parsley on toast or will I skip it and simply go to my desk with a cup of tea and handful of almonds, time is the essence.
It was after staying at The Farm, that I started blending my green juice at home

There’s not too much routine to my consumption of foods as my daily routine is varied and I like to keep my meals varied.  But there are habits that I do have in place that are a staple:
- my sigg water bottle is always filled with water and with me if I have to head out of the office
- a glass of water is always on my desk, sometimes have fun creating a jug of water filled with herbs or fruits
- a delicious pink lady apple or two also accompanies me (especially in the car when I to see my nephew, he likes an apple)
- a quick meal out to break the desk monotony is a bakery pie + salad or toasty
- days are maxed to three cups of tea at the desk or a couple at the desk and a long black with hot milk on the side at café
- veggies in any quantity, format or combination are consumed at some point in the day
- rarely eat red meat and if its chicken its free range and fish is Australian
- downfall! I do love a cherry ripe, a lemon slice or starfish bakery made muffin

shopping that involves freshness + using recycled bags
TIPS to develop some good food habits:
- pack some nuts, sultanas or fresh fruit for snacks
- purchase a quality water bottle, stop the random purchasing of plastic takeaway bottles, once you have your own you’ll use it
- keep meals fresh as possible whether cooking at home or out – especially if eating out or having take-away you do have options!
- choose foods that are not deep fried, covered in sugar or laden with processed sauces
- herbal tea chilled or a few frozen berries in water instead of any surgery processed drink
- spend a week or so at a spa wellness retreat to experience the wholesome spa cuisine can kick start some good habits

Spa Day for Breast Cancer

It’s happening again!  2016 was our inaugural awareness and fundraising event supporting women and men who’ve been touched by breast cancer and the support was sublime!

For 2017 we have amazing day spas dotted across Australia who are supporting Spa Day for Breast Cancer by donating $10 from each spa treatments booked on  Thursday 12 and  Friday 13 October.  Monies raised over these two days will be donated to Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) supporting not only women  and men who’ve been touched by breast cancer, but their family and friends....

“Spa Day for Breast Cancer was borne out of my experience with breast cancer; I was initially diagnosed in 2007 then again 2013. Visiting day spas, a spa wellness treat, a spa resort and using alternative therapies have all assisted me mentally and physically, as I processed the ordeal of being diagnosed and the array of oncology treatments. BCNA was a resource that I turned to too seek information and insight, both from the organisation and their forums.  Their efforts for assisting people of varying cultural backgrounds, gender and age, as well as treatment advocacy is admirable.  So in gratitude, I'm giving-back or paying it forward to BCNA and the spa industry, as I hope other women and their family and friends, who are touched by breast cancer, find the information and support they require and visit a day spa or two along the way.” ~ Karen Goudge, owner of Spa Wellness Travel

Float and release...

Floatation.  If you ever hear of somebody mentioning they've had a floatation treatment, prick your ears, listen, enquire and join in the conversation.

It had been a few years since I'd experienced a floatation treatment or a watsu session. Waking on a Sunday morning with a stiff neck which I'd tolerated for a few days and the held tension of demands of work and the festive season it was time to take some time out for myself.

Pondering a massage and my options of where I'd go and giving thought to how this summer hasn't given me the opportunity to frolic at the beach and float in the ocean as I'd desired, instantly brought to the forefront of my "mental to do list" a local floatation studio.  That then brought to my attention how the world of spa is putting more wellness options at our finger tips.  I promptly phoned and booked in for a floatation session!

The list of benefits for the body & mind include:
Relaxation response
Meditation
Heightened senses
Chronic stress relief
Pain management
Increased immune function
Enhanced healing / recovery
Deautomatisation
Musculoskeletal awareness
Behaviour modification
Magnesium absorption
Brain synchronization
Anti-gravity benefits
Visualization
Super-learning
Increased stress resistance
Endorphins
Poor sleep / insomnia

In the tepid dimmed room, I put my ear plugs in place and step in to the floatation tank and submerse my body and close the hood on the tank.  The large quantity of empsom salts my body instantly floats. The music is soft and gentle, my breathing becomes a focus and Im in the moment.  I explore a range of movements; rolling my shoulders forward then backward, lifting them up and stretching them down. Tilting my head forward and backward. Rolling my ankles, arching my back, pulling my shoulder blades together and then of course there were moments of nothing but my breath.

The music ceases, my neck still aches.  I start to ponder maybe I  should have gone for the massage.
I then remember there's an inflated travel pillow, I open the hatch, grab it and put it around my neck and sink back into the tepid water. I also place my hand behind my head, laze and breath. I eliminate thoughts. I relax eventually!

When the music starts up again, that is my signal to gather my being and step under the shower to rinse and cleanse my hair. Before getting out of the tank, I smile and have a giggle...that was the best hour given to myself in awhile.  On my departure, I purchase the three session package and drive away looking forward to my next sessions.

Friends, book a Spa Wellness Travel package and we'll place a Wellness Studio floatation treatment within your documentation.  Note:  The Wellness Studio is located in Geelong, Victoria and is open seven days a week.
